UNITED PETROLEUM to launch e85 in Sydney and Melbourne

Friday, 2 November 2007

United Petroleum is proud to announce today that will launch e85 in Sydney and Melbourne., David Szymczak, the General Manager of United Petroleum said today.

United Petroleum is Australias leading marketer of ethanol enhanced fuels and its PLUS ULP and Boost 98 brands are Australias most recognised e10 brands. In order to maintain our reputation as Australias leading ethanol fuels marketer, United will introduce e85 in Sydney and Melbourne.

e85 is a blend of 85% ethanol and 15% petrol which delivers very significant environmental benefits, indeed Saab estimates that driving an e85 vehicle reduces fossil fuel-based CO2 emissions by up to 80%. Further more this exciting new fuel also contains much less toxins and carcinogens than regular unleaded petrol.

United Petroleum recognises that e85 is a fuel with an exciting future in Australia and is keen to support SAAB Australia with their launch of e85 vehicles in Australia. As the demand for e85 will be very low in the very near future United Petroleum will install e85 in one of its Melbourne Service Stations and one in Sydney. The e85 fuel will be launched in the coming months once United Petroleum have completed its work with the various Government regulators.

e85 is not suitable for use in any other motor vehicles other than those designed specifically for e85, such as the new SAAB BioPower 9-3 and SAAB BioPower 9-5.

David Szymczak concluded by saying that, This is a very significant environmental initiative by United Petroleum and has the potential of encouraging car manufacturers to rise to the environmental challenges we face in Australia and bring a whole new range of environmentally friendly cars in Australia.

PLUS ULP and Boost 98

United Petroleum is Australias leading marketer of e10 fuels in Australia and markets its PLUS ULP and Boost 98 products in every state of Australia except Western Australia.  Today these e10 fuels are available to the public through a network of over 250 United Branded locations.

PLUS ULP and Boost 98 are high performance grades of petrol, both enhanced with 10 per cent ethanol.  BOOST 98 has a 98 research octane number (RON) and PLUS ULP has a 95 research octane number (RON).
Mr Szymczak concluded by saying that ethanol blended petrols such as BOOST 98 and PLUS ULP were the way of the future, and save you money while providing a BOOST to the environment and a BOOST to your cars performance.

PLUS ULP continues to be sold at a discount to regular ULP despite the benefits of a higher octane and better engine performance.  Similarly, Boost 98 is sold at United at a heavy discount to the normal price of regular 98 grade petrol.

Ethanol is a natural octane enhancer, produced in Australia from renewable crops such as sugar cane and wheat., said David Szymczak.

Ethanol has been used extensively in petrol in North and South America for more than 20 years, and it is being increasingly used in Europe and Asia.

Mr Szymczak said that using ethanol in petrol improves engine performance, assists the environment and extends petrol supplies.

Ethanol is a natural octane enhancer, so the addition of 10 per cent ethanol to petrol boosts its octane and its performance.  Ethanol contains oxygen and it helps the other components in petrol to burn more completely.  It also has a cleaning effect on the car fuel system.  Ethanol is widely used in high performance racing fuels.

Ethanol assists in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, which is a major contributor to global warming.  Petrol with 10 per cent ethanol blend reduces carbon monoxide and total hydrocarbon emissions, and it contains less toxins and carcinogens than regular unleaded petrol.

Using petrol blended with ethanol improves Australias energy security and Australias balance of payments.

Mr Szymczak said that BOOST 98 and PLUS ULP both fully meet Australian Fuel Quality Standards, and that most new and most older vehicle models can run on petrol containing 10 per cent ethanol.

The members of the Australian Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) have determined that existing vehicle warranties can support petrol with an ethanol level up to 10 per cent.

Motorists can switch between Boost 98 and PLUS ULP and other grades of petrol.

Mr Szymczak concluded by saying that ethanol blended petrols such as BOOST 98 and PLUS ULP were the way of the future, and save you money while providing a BOOST to the environment and a BOOST to your cars performance.

They are cleaner alternate fuels produced from a renewable source that will reduce Australias reliance on fossil fuels.
